Hello my lovelies! I’m really getting into this whole hot weather thing we have going on in the UK at the moment.
As you are probably aware the weather here in the UK is very temperamental, so when we do finally get a bit of sun we really have to make the most of it. But lately the last few weekends have been lovely and hot, for once! Meaning I haven’t had to worry about trying to find a jumper or cardigan to wear that’s not too thick but not too thin, all because the weather just can’t seem to make its mind up.
So I thought what better way to embrace the hot weather then to share with you my go to, sunshine essentials.
Sandals and flip flops for me are a MUST in the hot weather. The thing I love about wearing them is that even though you’re at home, you can still pretend and feel like you’re on holiday when you wear them outside. The only downfall I have found is no matter what pair I decide to wear I will always end up with the worlds worst tan lines on my feet. At the moment my feet actually look as though they are leopard printed, but I’ve learnt that’s just the price you have to pay when you want to wear your pretty sandals in the sun.
Now for me when the sun is shining, I can’t think of anything worse than having my long, thick hair draped down and making the back of my neck drip with sweat, nooo thank you!
Using heat on my hair in this kind of weather is just a big fat no no for me, I can spend ages trying to make my hair look the way I want it to and then I take one step outside and straight away it will turn into one giant frizz ball, so then I feel all that time and effort has just been wasted. So I just live with my hair up in a bun in the summer and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It just makes things so much easier, plus how do you expect to catch a tan on the back of your neck if you’re covering it with a mane like mine?
I know sunglasses are a great fashion accessory in the sun, but let’s not forget their most important job is to protect our eyes from the suns UV (ultraviolet) rays. Now, I’m a big fan of keeping my eyes healthy and protected (as I’m sure we all are), so I am willing to do whatever it takes to look after them and if that means I have to go out and do some sunglasses shopping then that’s absolutely fine by me.
We all know the struggle of trying X amount of sunglasses on to try to find the right shape for your face, then when luck is on your side you finally find the perfect pair.
The shape that I find to be the biggest fan of my face are the Retro Squares and the Aviators (you can see in the picture above), the only problem with the Aviators is that no matter who you are talking to they are never really paying full attention to what you are saying because they’re too busy looking at themselves in your sunglasses haha. It really is just like looking in the mirror.
4. Sun Cream
This is definitely one of, if not the most important essential you need when you’re going to be out in the sun. Sun Cream!! Many people will think the main reason for wearing sun cream is to stop you getting burnt, but actually it’s not. It is to reduce the damage from the sun. Whether or not you see your skin burning, it can be harmed by constant sun exposure. REMEMBER, sunburn is an immediate reaction for your skin, but damage from the sun can occur over a lifetime! Almost every drugstore/ high street shop will sell suncream, it may be a little on the pricey side in most places but it is worth it if you want to protect your skin.
I just have a simple ‘Nivea Moisturising Sun Spray’, but it does the trick.
We’re finally at my favourite part, the nails! In the summer, pastel colours are my go to nail colours and they always will be for all eternity. I love everything about them, they are just beautiful, soothing, washed out, milky colours and they even make your hands look 10x more tanned then they would be if you were to apply a darker colour varnish.
Plus if you were wearing a darker coloured top or dress, your nails will be sure to stand out from miles away.
6. A Cool Drink & Great Company
So there you have it my lovely readers, all of my sunshine essentials!
Please always remember to stay hydrated and protected in the heat, your skin will thank you for it in the long run.
